Books About the Breed

Books:

  • The New Complete Brittany by Maxwell Riddle – 1974 – an excellent overview of the breed, especially its history in the United States
  • A New Owner’s Guide to Brittanys by Beverly Millette – 1999 – a great beginner’s guide to Brittanys from an extreely knowledgable breeder! You’ll find the “Millette” kennel name in Waverly’s pedigree
  • Training and Hunting the Brittany Spaniel by Ralph B. Hammond and Robert D. Hammond – 1971 – Old school, ut still a treasure trove of knowledge on hunting with the breed
  • L’Épagneul Breton by R. Munsch, translated by G. Bagshaw – 1937 (translated in 2021) – THE book on the historic roots of the breed in France. Originally published in 1937, shortly after the first Brittanys were imported to North America, it contains the original breed standard and an in-depth view of the development of the breed in their country of origin. A must for the history nerds out there.
  • A Feisty Little Pointing Dog: A Celebration of the Brittany by David Webb – 2000 – A collection of essays about living with and hunting with Brittanys. A heartwarming book and a must-have for any hunter who has hit the woods with our little dogs!

Video and Training Resources

Puppy Culture Videos and Courses – My puppies are raised with puppy culture protocols; that means they come home with a pre-trained response to a clicker, as well as the foundations instilled by the puppy culture course. I highly recommend Puppy Culture/MadCap University’s training courses and videos for new homes!

  • With Open Arms and a Level Head – This is the puppy owner follow-up course that meshes with the breeder protocols found in “From Newborn to New Home”
  • Attention is the Mother of All Behaviors – This film focuses on how to create attention and engagement with your puppy. This is an incredibly helpful skill for a breed like Brittanys, who can struggle with focus!

**I do not get any kind of kickback for the purchase of any of my recommended resources, I just genuinely believe in their content and use.
