Where do your dogs live?
My dogs reside in my home with me, not in a kennel environment.
What kind of homes are best for a Brittany?
Brittanys are versatile dogs and can thrive in many types homes, but they need a family that is active and can meet their exercise needs! They make excellent hunting dogs, active companions for families who like to run or bike, or dog sport companions. They can have softer temperaments than some gundogs and tend to do best with positive, consistent, and clear training methods. I do not recommend heavy-handed training methods. Due to their prey drive, environmental engagement, and energy levels, I do not recommend them as service dog prospects and do not place puppies as such.
Can I choose my puppy?
We do not allow puppy homes to choose their puppy, though we will discuss it with you and do our best to weigh your preferences when selecting the right fit! In larger litters, we may offer your choice between a few options. We believe it is important that each puppy goes to the home that will be their best fit, so we strive to place them in that way.
Do you dock tails? Is it possible to get an undocked puppy?
Some Brittanys have naturally bobbed tails, while others do not. We take our puppies to our veterinarian to have their tails docked to the breed standard length as neonates. Tail docking takes place in the first 3-5 days of life, before nerves are fully myelinated and puppies’ nervous systems are complete. This makes recovery swift and stress minimal for the puppies. It is not humane to dock tails later than this as puppies become more developed. Because we do not select home placements for our puppies until 7-8 weeks of age, we cannot accommodate leaving tails undocked.
What health testing do you complete?
All of our breeding dogs are CHIC certified. Outside stud dogs have elbows and hips tested through OFA at minimum, though many are more extensively health tested. The American Brittany Club code of ethics requires OFA screening for hips at minimum, and recommends going above and beyond this.
How much do your puppies cost?
We charge between $1500-$2000 depending on the individual litter. The litter price will be listed on our planned litters page.
